Tips on Stress-Free Traveling with a Baby for Every Step of the Journey

Traveling with a baby is entirely different than traveling with just your spouse or a few friends. Whether you’re going a vacation, visiting relatives or just sight- seeing, you’ll want to consider a few things while you plan and pack for your trip.

Accommodations

While it used to be easy to rent a single room on airbnb or Priceline a tiny hotel room, you can be sure that is not ideal for traveling with baby. When looking for a place to stay, consider the sleeping situation. Do you want your baby to sleep in your room or to have a separate space where they can snooze uninterrupted? Try finding a home to rent that has enough bedrooms for your and baby as well as a full kitchen. Having the flexibility to eat in if your bundle of joy isn’t feeling well or is inconsolable will be a lifesaver. (Tip: if you can’t afford a space with multiple rooms, try to find a place with a large bathroom where you can set up a pack and play.)

Destinations

As you search for that perfect spot for your next vacation or travel destination, decide how many flights and car/ bus rides you want to tackle with baby in tow. If you’re unsure what you can handle try to choose a place that requires a single flight or car ride.

Gear

When you’re traveling with baby you do not want to find yourself unprepared. For your first travels with baby err on the side of bringing too much baby gear. As you travel more, you’ll learn lots of tricks and have a better idea of what works best for your particular child. I suggest bringing a quality and comfortable carrier, a compact stroller, sound machine and pack n play.

Pace

Don’t pack your days with things to do. Babies are unpredictable and you’ll want to have the flexibility to rearrange your schedule on a whim.

Be organized

It pays to be organized when you’re traveling with your infant. It may take a little more forethought but you’ll be happy that you know where all of your supplies are when there’s a blow out, spit up or desperate plea for a pacifier.

Document it!

Everyone says that time picks up speed when you’re a parent and it is so true. Be prepared with your camera or space on your phone and a journal to record  the many moments that you share on this unique adventure.
