Now’s the time to embrace the pregnancy clichés, put up your feet, and dote on yourself by getting cozy on the couch and watching a movie. Between the stress of baby planning and your new surge of hormones, you could probably use a good laugh and some positive vibes. Here are a few suggestions to get you giggling and ready to take on this parenting thing with a smile.
What to Expect When You’re Expecting (2012)
Sure, you probably have seen this on every list of movies to watch while pregnant, but this movie has it all. It follows the stories of several different couples that all have different experiences on the journey to pregnancy and birth. You will laugh, you will cry, and you will laugh-cry. It’s also eerily relatable. Make this number one on your list.
Baby Mama (2008)
This is one of the classic movies to watch while pregnant, and for good reason. Amy Poehler and Tina Fey are the ever-dynamic duo that will keep you laughing from beginning to end. Fey’s character, a single woman ready to take on parenting, agrees to have Poehler carry her child for her. She quickly learns how humorously different they are in their approaches to all things baby.
Father of the Bride II (1995)
This is an oldie but a goodie and one sequel that might be just as good as the original. Imagine being pregnant and experiencing all of the not so pleasant feelings that come with that, and then add to it that your mom happens to pregnant, too! Not so funny if it’s you, but hilarious when it’s a fictional character! This movie will make you laugh but will also touch you with the same endearment of the first movie.
Baby’s Day Out (1994)
This is a slapstick family comedy about three crooks who kidnap a baby from a wealthy family and end up on an “adventure” all over Chicago. It’s not your typical pregnancy movie, but you will be squealing over the cuteness of Baby Bink and filled with even more excitement over the antics you’ll soon be getting into with your own little fearless explorer.
The Office (2005-2013)
Okay, so this isn’t a movie, but it’s a classic television show that will make you laugh until you pee your pants (which, be honest, isn’t that hard to do these days). No matter how many times you’ve seen the series, it only gets funnier as you fall in the love with the characters more and more. And you’ll be able to stretch it out over the span of your whole pregnancy, keeping you distracted from all your pregnancy woes. However, if you’re just not into it, another great series to try is Parks and Recreation.
They say that laughter is the best medicine, and you’ll find that to be true as you laugh your way through the (un)pleasantries of pregnancy and right into parenthood!
