Flu season is upon us and apparently this year it’s pretty bad. I have been so paranoid about me or my kids catching it that we have practically been avoiding all of our usual public hang out spots. Strong immune system or not, hunkering down in my house like a recluse at least makes me feel a little bit less anxious.
While I can’t totally ignore the outside world for the next three months (I guess we do need food once in a while), I figured there’s gotta be some things I can do to keep a strong immune system and decrease our chances of catching any yucky illnesses.
We all know one of the best things you can do to stay healthy is to wash your hands frequently. However, you don’t always have access to a bathroom sink, and when you’re out and about during the day you don’t want to pay a visit to the porcelain palace in every single store you enter. Also, trying to wash a toddler’s hands in a public bathroom while also wearing an infant strapped to your chest… borders on acrobatic, to say the least.
While you’re on the healthy train, here are 9 healthy resolutions for you mind, body, and soul.
So, I tried to think of another way that I could boost our family’s immune system and keep the germs at bay. In addition to washing hands and carrying miniature bottles of hand sanitizers I, who have never been germaphobic until now, decided to create an “immune system booster” blend using my essential oils.
There are several oils that you can use to help sanitize and block germs and infections from taking root. The following oils are all antibiotic, antiseptic, and antiviral (and most are also antifungal).
I only had the last two on hand so decided to grab those with some sunflower oil to create my blend. I have a couple of 10mL empty roller ball applicators that I picked up from Whole Foods.
Give it a little swirl and- tada! That’s it. Seriously. It’s so small that I can carry it with me wherever I go–it even fits in my pocket. I can apply it on my wrists and my hands before I walk into any public area, or even roll it on my neck or around my mouth and nose. It’s also safe to use on my two year old, who really has me nervous about germs because he is a thumbsucker so everything he touches goes into his mouth!
I know this isn’t perfect and may not protect 100% against the most aggressive of germs, but it’s something quick you can do if you’re out and realize you forgot to wash your hands for the 97th time today. And, it smells pretty good, too!

You can choose one or all of those things to implement into your daily routine–every little bit counts. And if you still end up getting sick anyways (sometimes it’s inevitable!), it most likely will be less severe than it could have been because your body will be strong and ready to fight. Here’s to hoping, though, that your immune system is so boosted that all those germs run the opposite direction when they see you coming!
