Full disclosure: I’m not a very good idea person, at least when it comes to visual displays. My husband is the decorator in our home and comes up with great holiday decoration ideas. When I do have a good idea, I’ve usually seen it on HGTV or at someone else’s house.
The best lesson I’ve learned from these sources is for winter or holiday decorating, greenery goes a long way. There are so many ways you can display pine branches, sticks, cones, and interesting leaves, all you need is a walk through the woods (Added benefit: you’ll return home all stress free!) and maybe a few suggestions. That’s where the blog comes in handy. I offer three really easy holiday decoration ideas for any home.
In addition to these greenery holiday decoration ideas, here is a list of 25+ DIY Christmas decor ideas.
A la naturale is in. Take a few sizes and shapes of greenery stalks and stick them in different sizes of interesting vases or bottles. Search thrift stores and garage sales for the bottles. I have probably a dozen at home that I switch out.
For the greenery, try a small stick of holly with a couple of berries for one glass or vase, and then two different types of pine sticks in the others. Then, group them together, maybe as a table centerpiece, a bar area, or a fireplace mantel.
If you like, scatter pinecones around the base of the glass, or stream a few white lights around the base.

Everywhere I look, it seems I catch a glance of small birch logs laid out for display. Some people pay a small fortune for three or four of these beauties, all festive in their white bark robes and dark etchings. Fortunately for us, we have tree farmers as friends, and they supply us with all the birch we need.
Whatever your source for birch is, just find three or four logs or branches and gather them together. Tie them with a festive bow, wrap white lights around them, or place them in an interesting container such as an old milk can.
This page offers a really pretty image of small branches clustered together, tied with a large ribbon, and placed on the shelf of a small end table.
Simple, rustic, but elegant are words used to describe this decoration. Similar to greenery in a bottle, with this decorating tip, you’ll use pinecones of all shapes and sizes. Placing them in any interesting container works. This image shows pinecones and white lights in wide-mouth vases. You can also use canning jars, and you can set them at different lights. Or, try trays or cake stands. Mix in some cinnamon sticks, greenery, or even cloves and clementines. Or, throw in a few Christmas bulbs.
I’m glad natural is in. I’m glad unpretentious is in. I’m glad simple is in.
Most of all, I’m glad stress-free is in.
Glad tidings to you as you place those simple but beautiful touches all around your home this holiday season.
