Exercise is not the only ingredient to weight loss (nor the most important, in my unprofessional opinion), but it does help. Getting your heart pumping and your blood flowing, even for just half an hour, kicks your metabolism up a notch and gives you the energy and motivation to keep making healthy choices.
Eat three nutrient-filled meals each day and avoid snacking. Extra calories add up when you grab a handful of potato chips here and finish your toddler’s leftovers there. Some people also prefer to stop eating after a certain time of night, like 7pm. Be mindful and intentional about what and when you eat.
At least half of your plate at each meal should be made of vegetables- particularly nutrient dense and green leafy veggies. This will replace other choices that may not be as nourishing. Weight loss is intimately connected to what you eat, so make sure you are putting the right kinds of foods into your body.
In order to avoid snacking, your meals need to be nourishing enough to keep hunger at bay until the next meal. This job is done best by proteins and healthy fats. In addition to half your plate being veggies, have a palm size portion of protein and about a ¼ of a cup of a healthy fat like avocado, nut butter, olives, or seeds. Don’t be afraid of healthy fats. These will work with your body to burn fat, give you energy, and keep you full longer.
Losing weight is kind of like a jigsaw puzzle and trying to lose weight fast is not necessarily right for everyone. There are many different pieces and moving parts, and you can’t do just one thing and expect to get healthy results. If you can create good habits and stick to your plan, then you will see progress and be closer to your fitness goals every day.
