6 DIY Housewarming Gift Basket Ideas

Here's a collection of housewarming gift basket ideas to get your juices flowing and help you prepare the perfect housewarming gifts for your friends.

Think Essentials

When people move into new homes (or apartments), they often find themselves having to purchase day to day essentials because they simply can’t find what they need in the piles of boxes that fill their living room. Cleaning supplies like all purpose spray and some microfiber rags will remedy all they’re cleaning needs. In the kitchen, paper products are always a must. Dinner is less daunting when you don’t have to do the dishes after working hard all day to settle in. A few other items that may be helpful are batteries, painters tape and Command strips and/or hooks

Think Functional

When you’re looking for something that’s a bit more special than the basics remember that new homeowners always welcome functional gifts that are a reminder of their exciting transition. Good quality towels or a coffee mug with their new home city are nice to wake up to in a new home.

Think Celebratory

There are few things more welcoming than a celebratory drink or dessert. Treat your friends to some wine, beer or perhaps a sangria kit. They’re sure to love sitting down in the evening, relaxing as they sip on their prized beverage.

Think Decorative

Maybe you have a friend that loves to decorate and you think an exciting new piece would be just right to help them get a vision for their new space. (But be sure that you know your friends style before you go decorative.) Trinkets, a new wall hanging, placemats or even candles are small items that you can give your friends who love interior design. These have the potential to be the stepping stones to transforming their bare house into a home.

Think Plants

Who doesn’t love bringing life from the outside into their home? I always get excited when I receive a plant as a gift because it’s never something I think to buy for myself. Plants help homes feel fresh among all the clutter, and they add “pretty” to a room when the decorating has yet to begin.

Think Fun

If your neighbor has young kids who need help being entertained, consider purchasing games or toys that the children can play with while the parents work on getting things unpacked. DVDs, simple craft paper and markers may also be a welcome addition to your housewarming gift basket.

Choose a theme of your own or maybe a few of these ideas and you’ll have no problem making the perfect basket! Remember, your friend will value your thoughtfulness much more than whatever items are in their gift basket. You’ve got this!
