I’ve only been a mom for two and a half years, but I’m in two kids deep and can already feel myself falling behind in the fashion world. It’s hard to keep up on the fall fashion trends! Having been pregnant and/or breastfeeding for over three years now, clothes shopping hasn’t been a priority for me. My closet is still full of the clothes I wore in college and young working-professional sales rack splurges.
In addition to being preoccupied with potty training and preschool hunting, I also have a new body that feels unfamiliar when I simply look in the mirror — especially in the latest styles! However, a quick Google search and I’ve nailed down four fall fashion trends that even a mom with a newborn and a two year old would be willing to try.
Florals cycle in and out of style every few seasons, but I pretty much always keep them in my closet- which apparently is good news for me this season! They are so versatile and can be worn dressed up or casually. They have a feminine flare and the darker shades this fall add a little attitude. The best part in my book is that the pattern easily hides stains from sticky kid fingers or cold coffee on the go.
4 Fall Fashion Trends That Were Made for Moms Click To TweetI’ve shied away from tea length skirts in the past, but I’m starting to see the beauty in them. The thing that makes this style great for moms is that it’s long enough so that you can run around in it without having to worry about flashing anyone, but it’s short enough to let your feet move fast without getting tripped up. This is a look you can wear in the office or on the playground, and will make you feel dressed up with very little effort!
This fall, it’s cool to wear your comfy clothes! Now this is a style I can get behind. Fashion week saw designers playing with long zippers on athletic style clothing, which is super practical for women who are breastfeeding. Elle suggests pairing your sweats with stilettos, but I think most mothers would agree with me when I say that I’ll stick to the tennis shoes. However, if you feel like you need to dress it up, try a cute embroidered sweatshirt like this one from Madewell.
The color red is everywhere this fall and it’s such a fun pop of color amidst the neutral tones of autumn. Red is bold, bright, and powerful- so every mom should automatically have at least one red item in their wardrobe to represent the strong woman that she is. I tend to have more of a neutral and understated style, but I think it’d be a fun spin to wear such a forward color this fall.
On a mom’s list of priorities, fashion might be at the bottom — there are bigger fish to fry! But every now and then, it is nice to feel polished and put together. It helps you feel like yourself and not like you’re lost in the identity of motherhood. And even if your stylish fall wardrobe gets a little spit up on it, go ahead and rock these fall fashion trends anyway because you can totally pull it off. Remember, mom cans do anything!
