Exploring the Great Outdoors

Visit an apple orchard

Crisp apples and even crisper air – making a trip to an apple orchard is family fun for people of all ages!  Find apples of all varieties and pay as a you pick.  There’s nothing cooler than having an apple you picked yourself in your lunchbag.  A lot of apple orchards offer other fun fall activities such as hayrides and corn mazes!  (And your teens will love all of the #Insta-worthy photo ops!)

Enjoy the fall foliage

The changing leaves are a sure sign that autumn is on it’s way.  Take advantage of Mother Nature’s most colorful season by going on nature walks to collect pretty leaves, or even simply making the most out of your raking chore by jumping in piles of leaves when you’re finished!

Plant bulbs for the spring

Get ahead on your gardening this year by enlisting your favorite teen to help you plant bulbs!  Doing yard work might seem like a chore, but it can easily be turned into family bonding with a little music and a glass of cool cider!

Fall Recipes

Eat a caramel apple

Pick up some Affy Tapples at your local grocery store, or try making some of your own!  Simply put your apples on sticks, and dip them into melted caramel.  Try rolling them around in chopped nuts or small candy or even drizzling them with chocolate for a fun twist!

Make butternut squash soup

Oh my Gourd!  Have fun cooking up a pot of this “adult” meal with your very own young adult.  Check out this recipe from Martha Stewart, and don’t forget a healthy dollop of sour cream!

Bake an apple or pumpkin pie

Nothing screams Thanksgiving dinner like a pie for dessert.  Pull out your aprons and oven mitts, and let your teen take the reins deciding what kind of pie, whether you want to purchase or make crust, and everything else in between!  Try visiting a local apple orchard or pumpkin patch to pick your own ingredients.

Sip on hot apple cider

It’s time to get spicy!  Purchase cider at a grocery store or farmer’s market, and heat it over a stove.  Get some mugs and you are good to go, or try crafting your own with this easy recipe!

Celebrate The Fall Season

Watch a scary movie

Grab a bag of popcorn and some cozy blankets, and prepared to be scared!  Get nostalgic and have your teen watch one of your old favorite horror movies with you!  It’s the perfect way to get into the Halloween spirit.

Carve pumpkins

A funny face, a silly cat, or even the visage of one of your favorite celebrities.  Gutting your pumpkin, cutting out features, and lighting up the face is a timeless fall tradition.  Save the seeds for a delicious snack!

Get spooked at a haunted house

Get ready for some serious screams.  Do a little research to see if your town has any local haunted houses, or see if there are any commercial ones in the area.  Let your teen bring a group of friends to get scared with!

These fall activities for teens could be exactly what your family needs! Don’t forget to take lots of photos while you and your teens enjoy the beautiful autumn season!
