The list of baby items can seem to go on and on, but how much of it do you really need? Many items may feel standard but in reality, you can easily do without them. Whether you’re on a budget or just looking to keep things simple, here are eight nursery items that you can leave behind.
Too Many Blankets
All you really need are a few muslin swaddle blankets and two or three thicker blankets. For bedding, it’s safer to just use a swaddle blanket or a sleep sack.
Changing Table
Once baby starts rolling (around 4 or 5 months), it’s easier (and safer!) just to change them on the floor! Save yourself some dresser space and keep your little one grounded during diaper duty.
Breakable Décor
Antique heirlooms and knick-knacks may bring beauty to your special space, but once baby is on the move, anything is a potential target. If you have a few fragile items you have your heart set on displaying, choose to place them on a high shelf so baby can look but not touch.
Car Seat Cover
If you’re looking for a way to give your new bundle some privacy while out and about, simply drape a blanket over the car seat. While personalized covers can be cute, they just aren’t necessary.
Baby Towels
This is another item that is almost too cute to pass up. If you must have a small, hooded towel, try to limit it to one or two. Otherwise, simply use regular towels! They are even more absorbent and will keep your clean baby nice and warm.
Diaper Genie
A frequent complaint from parents is that even trashcans designed specifically for diapers still cannot keep out that unpleasant, dirty diaper smell. You can save some cash if you just use a small, regular trashcan and take it out every other day or so.
Baby Shoes
Baby shoes are definitely some of the cutest baby items you will come across. However, babies really don’t need shoes until they start to walk- and even then, it’s hard to keep them on their feet! If you’re going for practicality, skip the shoes and just keep their little piggies warm with socks.
Diaper Organizer
Use one of the dresser drawers to store diapers, wipes, and other changing supplies. It’s a cleaner look and will be out of baby’s reach once they become mobile.
Decorating your new baby’s nursery is an exciting but sometimes overwhelming process. Save yourself from the stress and keep it simple- you’ll be enjoying it with your little love in no time.
