To start, trace or freehand a heart shape on a piece of felt. Once you’ve cut the shape out, cut it down the middle, so you have two identical halves. These pieces will be the face/eye area for your fox.

Next, cut out three circles from your black felt – two of equal size and one just a bit bigger. These will be the eyes and nose for your little creature.

Your final preparation step is to cut out triangles for the ears of the fox. Cut two larger ears in one color, and then two slightly smaller ears in another color of felt.

Once you have all your pieces ready to go, put it all together with some felt glue!

When you’re done, you have the cutest heart-shaped fox. If you want to go just one step further, take a bit of the felt and cut out a simple bow shape. You can add these small bows to the foxes for each female student, and you can have lots of fun with the variety of patterned felts available at your local craft store.

To turn these lovely Woodland characters into Valentine card-holders, you have two options. One, you could glue a second foam heart to the back of the assembled fox. Glue just the bottom half, right along the edges of the heart. This will create a little pocket in the back for you to slide a card inside. Or two, you can simply use some washi tape to attach a Valentine to the back of your fox.
